PA & NJ Boaters - All Skill Levels Reasons to take a course…pick one! Take advantage of the years of experience and wealth of information that members of the Auxiliary have to offer. In the spirit of helping others that also enjoy the water, the Auxiliary volunteers its time so you can get the most out of your boating pleasure...by boating safely. Many insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to individuals who successfully complete the course. Individuals successfully completing the course and exam are awarded a certificate and card. These individuals may also qualify for, and are invited to continue on for further certification in other classes offered by the Flotilla throughout the year.

This course is geared to provide the language of piloting and is a precursor to our Basic/Advanced Coastal Navigation Course. Here you will learn the basics of charts, Distance/Speed/Time calculations, Correct Piloting Procedures, the Tools of Piloting and much more. With this course, you will be ready to go on to

Advanced Coastal Navigation
Wednesday Evenings, 7-9PM (check-in and late registration 6PM on the first evening of class)
After your trip through our Charting Review Course, this is your next logical step…real Coastal Piloting…in other words…”How do I get there, and how do I get back-safely?” Topics include: Introduction to Coastal Navigation, Marine Magnetic Compass, Nautical Charts, Tools and Instruments, Dead Reckoning, Piloting, Current Sailing, Tides and Currents, Radio navigation, Reference Publications, Fuel and Voyage Planning, etc.

America’s Boating Course
Saturdays, Preregistration Only - No Walk-ins
Recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard and approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, this course is a unique study program covering the fundamentals of boating. Seven lessons include: General information about boats and maintenance, Information to make your boating experience safer and more comfortable, Tips on being a more courteous boat operator, Laws and regulations to which you must adhere. Although this course is not as comprehensive as our BS&S, it is a great entry level approach to safe boating. This can be done as a homestudy course also (home study not approved for New Jersey). Individuals successfully completing the course and exam are awarded a USCGAux certificate and card.

GPS for Mariners
Saturdays, 0800 – 1200
A modern learning experience that focuses on the GPS equipment typically owned by the recreational boater. We invite participants who already own hand-held GPS units to bring them to class. Those who do not already own a GPS will also learn how to use one for practical recreational boating.

Let’s Go Sailing
12 Week Course Mondays, 7pm - 9pm
Designed for the person who wants to begin sailing in a small boat, learning each step the right way. This is not a boating safety course. Topics include: Beginning to Sail, Let’s Go Sailing, Safe Sailing, and Advanced Topics. Test, Certificate and Card.
